| In February 2005, TPCS was
awarded a $294,000 contract from Essex County to provide transitional
housing services to eligible single mothers with children. This program
become fully operational in late July 2005 and currently houses 10 women
and their children. The transitional housing program is the next level
of housing for a majority of single women who have been placed in the
shelter system. The program is specifically designed to assist omen work
on parenting skills, independent living skills, and financial management
skills. As well, the program works with the women to enter into
educational programs to obtain their GED's or in some cases, begin
taking college level courses to obtain their Associates Degrees. Clients who have GED's are encouraged to participate in employment training programs to develop their job training skills and to increase their opportunities for obtaining viable employment. Finally, the program is intended to move a woman and her children from homelessness to independent living by providing them with the supportive services they need to be successful in maintaining their housing. Transitional housing clients live in fully furnished apartments and have an extensive case management program that they are required to participate in to ensure success in moving towards wholeness and independence. |
